Interview with ABC Bullion & the World Gold Council
07 December 2022
On November 17th, Jordan Eliseo, General Manager ABC Bullion Australia, and Jaspar Crawley, Head of Institutional Sales, APAC ex-China, sat down for a discussion on all things gold and precious metals.
At the time, gold had begun to regain its bullish momentum, breaking out of the funk that had seen it trade down toward USD $1630 oz in early November, in what now looks like the culmination of a two-year corrective period that dates back to late 2020.
Gold has continued to strengthen since the interview, at one point trading back above USD $1,800 oz, with demand continuing to build, though it has since pulled back to USD $1,770oz.
In their discussion, Jordan and Jaspar delved into a range of topics, including
The key drivers of the gold price rally that took place from early November to the time of the interview
Why gold hasn’t fallen further in 2022, given the spike in rates and the US dollar that we’ve seen
The difference between retail demand for physical gold bars and coins, vs the gold ETF market
The outlook for central bank demand and their importance to the gold market
The differences between gold and cryptocurrencies, which have become so apparent given Bitcoins’ recent price crash
Why the ‘correct’ allocation to gold in a portfolio (if any) depends on the individual investor, rather than it being a one size fits all approach
This is a fascinating and timely chat to contextualise market movements that have taken place this year, the outlook for precious metals going forward, and the ongoing role gold can play in a portfolio.
